In February we got to spend the weekend at the USS Hornet sea, air, and space museum docked in the San Francisco Bay.
The USS Hornet is an aircraft carrier that served US forces during World War II.

During our stay on the ship we got to explore several important areas including the engine room, bunk rooms, and the aircraft hanger.

On thing that I liked about the trip was getting to sleep in the Medical bay bunks, which were more comfortable that the bunks the crewmen slept in. We also got to see Apollo 11 since the USS Hornet was the ship to pick up the Apollo 11.

Something I learned while on the ship was how the officers in charge of navigation would determine their basic location by using a map, the current speed of the ship, and the stars.

Another aspect of my time on the USS Hornet that I enjoyed was seeing where the marines stayed, and how different it looked from the standard naval crew quarters.

Additionally, this ship has an area dedicated to the 442nd Infantry Division, who were a Japanese American division that helped fight in Europe and saved many lives.
